Holding presidential election will avoid trap of constitutional vacuum

ALGIERS- Deputy Minister of National Defence, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), Lt General Ahmed Gaïd Salah said, Monday, in Ouargla that holding the presidential election ”will stand in the way of those who try to prolong the crisis,” said the National Defence Ministry in a communiqué.

The Army chief called for the rapid installation of an independent body in charge of elections organization and monitoring.

“The holding of the presidential election will stand in the way of those who try to prolong the crisis as the main approach consists in the imperative need to speed up the installation of a body in charge of elections organization and monitoring. In this regard, we expect rapid and suitable measures for the activation of this constitutional mechanism, as the most appropriate legal instrument to protect electors’ votes and guarantee the credibility of elections,” Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaïd Salah said during a meeting with army officials, on the second day of his working and inspection visit to the 4th Military Region in Ouargla.

For the Deputy Minister of National Defence, “holding the presidential election will help avoid the trap of the constitutional vacuum, which would result in risks and deviations with serious consequences. All the Algerian citizens, who are the jealous guardians of the reputation of their country, its interests and place among the community of countries, need to adhere to this crucial approach for the country’s future.”
