ALGIERS – Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaïd Salah, Deputy Minister of National Defence, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP) said Monday in Ouargla, that holding the Presidential Election requires the speeding up of the creation of an independent body for the elections organization and monitoring, in order to “avoid the constitutional vacuum,” said a communiqué of the National Defence Ministry (MDN).
On the second day of his visit to the 4th Military Region in Ouargla, the Deputy Minister of National Defence said that “holding the presidential election will help avoid the trap of the constitutional vacuum, which would result in risks and deviations with serious consequences. All the Algerian citizens, who are the jealous guardians of the reputation of their country, its interests and place among the community of countries, need to adhere to this crucial approach for the country’s future.”
In this regard, he said that “holding the presidential election will stand in the way of those who try to prolong the crisis. Obviously, the main stage would be to speed up the creation of an independent body in charge of elections organization and monitoring. ”
“We expect rapid and suitable measures for the activation of this constitutional mechanism, as the most appropriate legal instrument to protect electors’ votes and guarantee the credibility of elections,” the Army chief said.
Moreover, Gaïd Salah underlined that the “Army command proposal to activate Article 102 of the Constitution has disrupted gang chiefs who had profound hatred towards the Army forces efforts to develop on all fronts,” said the same source.
“On that occasion, the Article 102 of the Constitution we had proposed responsibly, sincerely and devotedly on March 26th in Djanet, 4th Military region as a constitutional appropriate solution has triggered numerous erroneous and biased interpretations from the gang chiefs who tried to thwart all approaches presented by the Army command,” he said.
Gaïd Salah stressed the “importance of the results obtained so far in the fight against corruption in our country, which constitutes a strong demand among the persistent and legitimate demands of the people.”
“The results achieved so far by the anti-graft move are one of the fundamental requirements of the Algerians faithful, loyal and jealous guardians of their homeland. These results go in the right direction, in harmony with all the efforts and the convergence of views between the Army and the people “.
The Army Chief of Staff said that “in the context of this harmony, it is preferable that the marches be characterized by a reasonable and sufficient level of organization and effective supervision so that sincere and honest representatives can emerge to convey the legitimate demands of these demonstrators. This will help avoiding any form of anarchy and falling into the trap of infiltration by individuals with suspicious schemes that use these marches as a portal to chant their slogans and brandish their banners, and a gateway to convey certain irrational demands, such as the requirement of the collective departure of all state executives, on the pretext that they are figures of the system.”
