Seminar on “May 8, 1945 epic in the weight of History” in Guelma

GUELMA – A national seminar on “the epic of May 8, 1945 in the weight of History” is planned next Wednesday at the University of Guelma, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 74th anniversary of the massacres of May 8, 1945 in Guelma, Setif and Kherrata (Bejaia), said Monday the University Dean.

 

“The choice of the theme of this academic meeting is due to “the importance of this period in the history of the Algerian nation as well as the large number of various national publications in Arabic and foreign languages ​​that have treated, studied and explained these events,” said Dr. Salah Agoune to the APS.
Organized by the Laboratory of History, Research and Historical Studies of the Campus Souidani Boudjemaa of the University of Guelma, this one-day national seminar includes four main papers related to the circumstances of the uprising of May 8, 1945, as a reaction to  the French massacres carried out against the peaceful march organized by the Algerians and  the international and territorial position adopted towards the massacres and its impact on the national movement, in addition to another theme concerning historical writings, testimonies, investigations and archives.
The meeting will see  the participation of teachers specialized in history and university researchers from the provinces  of Guelma, Constantine, Annaba and Biskra, said the head of the university.
