ORAN (Algeria)- The chairman of the Supreme Council of the Arabic Language, Salah Belaid, said Tuesday the project of historical encyclopedia in Arabic language will be completed by 2027.
Leading a conference to publicize this project, at the Center for Research in Social and Cultural Anthropology (CRASC) of Oran, Mr. Belaid said that this project sponsored on the technical level by Algeria, on the scientific level by the Egypt, funded by Emirate (United Arab Emirates)’ Sharjah, was launched in late 2016. An experimental copy will be ready in five years (2023) and the project will be definitively completed in 2027.
About thirty Algerian specialists are involved in the realization of this project, initiated by the Union of Arab Linguistic and Scientific Academies in Egypt, he said, pointing out that this book deals with the historiography of the Arabic language as well as the English-language encyclopedia of Oxford and history of the French language.
This first unique encyclopedia, in which several Arab countries take part, will be in the form of printed paper dictionaries, CDs and webcasts. Dealing with the evolution of the Arabic language since the pre-Islamic era, it will serve as a reference in the collection of vocabulary and grammar of the Arabic language, added the same official.
It will bring together billions of words helping researchers in different specialties to carry out their research, as well as the development of school dictionaries, in addition to solving historical and educational issues, highlighted the Chairman.
