Over 455,000 counterfeit products seized by Customs in 2018


ALGIERS- Algerian Customs seized a total of 455,516 counterfeit products in 2018, the General Directorate  of Customs told APS.


 Most of the counterfeit goods come from China (323,432 units), which represent more than 71% of the total number of counterfeit goods that entered the country in the previous year.

The rest of the counterfeit products were mainly imported from Bangladesh, India, Malaysia and Turkey (7646 units), and about 2% were imported from other countries (124,438 products), according to statistical data of the Customs’ General Directorate.

Sports items, textiles, spare parts, telephone accessories, electrical appliances and watches are the most affected goods by counterfeiting in 2018.

According to the Customs data, sports items are the most concerned by this phenomenon (269,608 items), which represents almost 59.19%, followed by textiles with 113,725 items (24.96%), spare parts with 67,671 items (14.85%), telephone accessories with 3,018 articles,

i.e. (0.66%), electrical appliances and watches with 1494 units (0.33%).
