Arms, ammunition cache discovered near southern border strip in Tamanrasset


ALGIERS-A detachment of the People’s National Army (ANP), in coordination with Customs, on Tuesday discovered an arms and ammunition cache near the southern border strip of Tamanrasset, the National Defence Ministry announced Wednesday in a communiqué.

As part of the fight against terrorism, and thanks to the exploitation of information, a detachment of Peolpe’s National Army discovered, in coordination with the customs services, on April 16, 2019 during an excavation and search operation conducted near the southern border strip in Tamanrasset, a cache of weapons and ammunition containing a 14.5 mm heavy machine gun, a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun with its support and a quantity of ammunition of different calibres.

As part of the fight against organized crime, detachments of the ANP arrested, during separate operations in Djanet, Tamanrasset and In Guezzam, (115) artisanal miners and seized three (03) metal detectors, (49) generators, (26) jackhammers, (17) bags of stone and crude gold, three all-tarrain vehicles, (134) grams of mercury and various other objects.

In the same context, elements of the National Gendarmerie seized, in Biskra and Ouargla, (9240) units of tobacco with an estimated value of (277) million centimes, as well as (763) units of different drinks , while (03) drug traffickers in possession of one (01) kilograms of treated Hashish were apprehended in Tebessa.

In addition, and as part of the fight against illegal immigration, elements of the National Gendarmerie intercepted (09) illegal immigrants of different nationalities in Tiaret.
