Minister of Culture calls for promoting national cultural heritage

TIPASA (Algeria)- Minister of Culture Meriem Merdassi, on a working visit Monday to Tipasa (70 km west of Algiers), called for the promotion of the national cultural heritage.

The visit of the Minister of Culture to Tipasa, marked by an important security device, was initiated by a trip to the Villa Angelvy, along with Wali Mohamed Bouchama, where she inspected the restoration site of the mosaics of this building, dating back to ancient times, including the Roman era.

On the spot, Meriem Merdassi emphasized the importance of training and transfer of expertise and know-how, through, she said, “signing agreements with international institutions and exploitation of Algerian artists’ expertises, “she said.

The minister also pleaded for the imperative to value archaeological monuments, like the Roman city of Tipasa, a World Heritage Site, by “examining mechanisms for their protection and preservation .

In this regard, Ms. Merdassi recommended the development of a new plan for the management of archaeological sites.

“Our services are currently working on the preparation of a dossier on the Roman city of Tipasa and the Kasbah of Algiers (both World Heritage sites) out of a total of seven existing monuments in Algeria, “she argued.
