Crisis in Libya: FM Boukadoum proposes tripartite meeting “Algeria-Tunisia-Egypt”


ALGIERS- Minister of Foreign Affairs Sabri Boukadoum held talks, on Wednesday, with his counterparts from Tunisia Mr. Khemaies Jhinaoui and Egypt Mr. Sameh Chokri and Mr. Ghassan Salame, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya on the situation in that country, said a statement from the Foreign Ministry (MAE).

The talks focused on the situation in Libya “in the light of the serious developments in the domestic scene in this country,” said the same source, adding that “the deterioration of the security situation and the risk of sliding to a situation of generalized instability has been the subject of an in-depth exchange “.

 The head of Algerian diplomacy called for “multiplying efforts” of neighboring countries to stop hostilities and privilege dialogue, the only way to preserve unity and the cohesion of the Libyan people, to safeguard their institutions and avoid foreign interference “.

To this end, Mr. Boukadoum proposed to convene, “without delay”, the tripartite meeting composed of the Foreign Ministers of Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt for “the examination of ways to help transcend the current crisis”.

Algeria’s approach stems from “its permanent solidarity with all the Libyan people and its readiness to do everything possible to promote a rapid return to peace and serenity under the auspices of the United Nations, “the statement concluded.
