Algeria: Biography of Abdelkader Bensalah, Algeria’s Head of State


The Speaker of the Council of the Nation has been officially declared, according to the article 102 of the Constitution and following the meeting of the Parliament, the Head of State of Algeria for a period of 90 days.

Bensalah, should, according to the text, take the interim of the head of state before organizing a presidential election within 90 days.

Abdelkader Bensalah was Speaker of the Council of the Nation since 2002, he was re-elected on January 9, 2013 and January 29, 2019.

November 30, 2004: elected in plenary session President of the African Parliamentary Union.
From 1997 to 2002: President of the Algerian People’s National Assembly.
From 1994 to 1997: President of the National Transition Council.
From 1993 to 1994: Member and spokesperson of the National Dialogue Commission.
From 1993 to 1993: Director of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
From 1989 to 1993: Algerian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
From 1977 to 1989: elected deputy of the province of Tlemcen.
-From 1974 to 1977: Manager General of the Arabic-language newspaper El Chaab.
From 1970 to 1974: Director of the Algerian Center for Information and Culture in Beirut (Lebanon).
