Tayeb Belaiz is currently chairing a meeting of the Constitutional Council which will formalize the vacancy of power following the resignation of the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
“We meet to note the definitive vacancy of the post of President of the Republic,” said Tayeb Belaiz at the beginning of the meeting.
The Constitutional Council meets in accordance with Article 102 of the Algerian Constitution which stipulates that “in case of resignation or death of the president of the Republic, the Constitutional Council meets de jure and ascertains the permanent vacancy of the Presidency of the Republic.”
The Constitutional Council will inform both Houses of Parliament of the vacancy of the post of President of the Republic due to resignation after this meeting.
