Algeria wakes up without Abdelaziz Bouteflika in power


Algeria – People took to the streets of the Algerian capital “Algiers”, on Tuesday night, to celebrate the departure of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who has been in power for twenty years.

Algerians are waking up, for the first time in 20 years, without Abdelaziz Bouteflika at the head of the country. A historic moment for Algeria, President Abdelaziz Bouteflika resigned yesterday, Tuesday, April 02, 2019, after 20 years at the helm of the country. This Wednesday morning, he is no longer President of the Republic.

According to the Constitution, the President of the Council of the Nation, the upper house of Parliament, Abdelkader Bensalah, must ensure an interim of up to 90 days.
