TUNIS- United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called, Sunday in Tunis, for “doubling efforts to achieve a democratic transition in Algeria, to serve the interests of its people.”
Speaking on the situation in Algeria, at the opening of the 30th Arab Summit, Guterres said: “We call for doubling efforts to achieve a democratic transition, serving the interests of his people”.
The UN Secretary-General met on Saturday with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra, with whom he discussed coordination between Algeria and the United Nations with regard the latest developments of different regional and international issues.
During their meeting, the two officials discussed the issued on the agenda of the Summit.
Lamamra expressed “the full support of Algeria to the UN efforts to resolve crises and conflicts,” welcoming, in this regard, the importance of the UN role and its efforts to establish peace and security,especially in the Sahel, Libya, Syria, as well as in Yemen, by making political solutions prevail in the achievement of national concord and reconciliation “.
