Algeria: Probable appointment of new Speaker of Council of Nation


Algeria – In anticipation of a resignation of the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, expected in the coming hours, a new Speaker of the Council of the Nation (Senate) could be appointed to assume the mission of Head of State.

The countdown has begun and the power in place is living its very last hours, especially as the resignation of the President of the Republic, in accordance with Article 102 of the Constitution, is imminent.

After his resignation, it is the Speaker of the Senate who will lead a 90-day transition period. According to a well-informed source, Abdelaziz Bouteflika is preparing to appoint a new Speaker of the Council of the Nation, who will succeed Abdelkader Bensalah.
