Council of Nation’s Speaker Bensalah, in Tunis, for 30th Arab Summit

TUNIS (Tunisia)- The speaker of the Council of the Nation (upper house of Parliament), Abdelkader Bensalah, arrived Saturday in Tunis to represent President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika in the 30th Arab summit due to take place on Sunday.

On Friday, Algeria was represented by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra at the meeting of the Council of Arab Ministers of Foreign Affairs.

The Arab leaders will discuss, during their meeting, draft decisions emanating from the meeting of the Council of Arab Ministers of Foreign Affairs, concerning the different Arab, political, security and economic causes.

 

These include the Palestinian issue whose developments will be monitored as well as the revival of the Arab peace initiative, the Israeli violations in the occupied city of El Qods, the developments of Israeli settlement, the intifada and the refugees.

Arab leaders will review the Golan Heights issue in Syria, especially after US President Donald Trump acknowledged, last Monday, that Israel has “sovereignty” over the plateau that has been occupied since 1967, as well as others themes including the Syrian crisis, the situation in Libya, solidarity with Lebanon and the issue of “foreign intervention in Arab affairs”.

 

The President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, has appointed the Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Abdelkader Bensalah, to represent him at the 30th Summit of the League of Arab States, to be held Sunday in Tunis, said a statement from the Presidency of the Republic.

“In response to the invitation he received from His Excellency Mr. Béji Caid Essebsi, President of the Republic of Tunisia, HE Mr. Abdelaziz Bouteflika, President of the Republic, appointed Mr. Abdelkader Bensalah, Speaker of the Council of the Nation, to represent him in 30th Summit of the League of Arab States, to be held on March 31, 2019 in Tunis, “the statement said.

The Speaker of the Council of the Nation is accompanied by Mr. Ramtane Lamamra, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, added the same source.
