Arab Summit 2019: Algeria reaffirms unwavering position, considers Syrian Golan as “occupied territory”

TUNIS-The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ramtane Lamamra, on Friday, reaffirmed Algeria’s “unwavering” position that considers the Syrian Golan as “occupied Arab territory, in accordance with international legality resolutions.”

“We reaffirm our steadfast and unwavering position and consider the Syrian Golan as an occupied Arab territory, in accordance with the resolutions of international legality, including resolution 497 of 1981, which rejects the decision of the Zionist entity and its arbitrary measures concerning the Golan, considering it null and void, “Lamamra said in his address to the Arab Foreign Ministers at their preparatory meeting for the 30th Arab Summit.

He stressed, in addition, “the need for the international community to respect the resolutions and the UN Charter, especially as it is inadmissible to seize, annex with force, or to illegally recognize the sovereignty of a given territory, particularly by the countries with primary responsibility for preserving and maintaining international peace and security under the United Nations Charter “.
