No meeting has been held yet by Constitutional Council on Bouteflika

ALGIERS- The constitutional council has not held any meeting so far so as to decide whether President Abdelaziz Bouteflika is fit for office, state radio said on Thursday.

Constitutional council has dismissed reports on mulling the fate of the President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, state radio said.

Earlier, the chief of staff of the ANP estimated, Tuesday, “necessary, even imperative to adopt a solution to get out of the crisis, which meets the legitimate demands of the Algerian people, and guarantees compliance with the provisions of the Constitution and the maintenance of the sovereignty of the State “.

The Chief of Staff called for the implementation of Article 102 of the Constitution which stipulates the vacancy of the post of President of the Republic.

The article allows the “removal of the president from office on the grounds of medical issues or other problems such as the inability of «exercising his functions.”

The article grants, also, the presidency of Algeria, for 135 days, to the Speaker of the Council of the Nation, the upper house in the Algerian parliament.
