Algeria – Members of the Central Committee of the National Liberation Front (FLN) announced, Wednesday, support for the appeal of Ahmed Gaid Salah, Deputy Minister of Defense and Chief of Staff, to the implementation of Article 102 of the Constitution.

“We, members of the central committee of the FLN, and after consultation with the majority of the members of the same committee (…) express our support for the proposal made by Ahmed Gaid Salah concerning the application of Article 102 of the Constitution as a legitimate and constitutional beginning that will allow us to secure our homeland from the dangers it incurs, “said a statement.

In this context, members of the central committee called on the activists of the former single party to praise “the suggestion while working in a way that will allow all categories of society to meet the expectations of the people.”

Earlier, the Chief of Staff called for the implementation of Article 102 of the Constitution which stipulates the vacancy of the post of President of the Republic.

The article allows the “removal of the president from office on the grounds of medical issues or other problems such as the inability of «exercising his functions.”

The article grants, also, the presidency of Algeria, for 135 days, to the Speaker of the Council of the Nation, the upper house in the Algerian parliament.
