Algeria – The UGTA, the country’s largest trade union, announced, on Wednesday, support of Gaid Salah, deputy minister of defense and chief of staff of the Algerian Army, with respect to the implementation of article 102 of the constitution.
“The UGTA welcomes and acknowledges the call of Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaid Salah, Deputy Minister of National Defense, Chief of Staff of the National People’s Army, to the application of Article 102 of the constitution, constituting the legal framework to overcome the political crisis facing our country today, “said the statement signed by Abdelmadjid Sidi Said.
The Chief of Staff called, yesterday, for the implementation of Article 102 of the Constitution which stipulates the vacancy of the post of President of the Republic.
The article grants, also, the presidency of Algeria, for 135 days, to the Speaker of the Council of the Nation, the upper house in the Algerian parliament.
