Algeria-Nigeria: Direct flight Algiers-Lagos probably before end of 2019

“A direct flight Algiers-Lagos will probably be launched before end of 2019,” announced the chargé d’affaires of the Nigerian Embassy in Algeria, Murtala Jimoh, emphasizing the need to promote economic and trade relations with Algeria to breathe new life into them.

Mr. Jimoh argued that the project to launch a direct air link Algiers-Lagos, whose agreement was signed in 2018, is going to be materialized “probably before the end of 2019”.

For his part, the director of the National Investment Promotion Commission of Nigeria, Emmanuel Adeshina Ayodji, invited Algerian operators to invest in his country which, he said, grants “facilities” to investment.

Many Algerian producers present at the day of information on investment opportunities in Nigeria, and activating in various fields, such as; the pharmaceutical industry, textile, food, electricity and hydraulics, have expressed an interest in exporting their products to Nigeria.

Other national operators, already invested in exporting goods to African countries, have, however, noted “some difficulties encountered in their export operations, especially with regard to logistics”.

They, thus, wished for the effective and sustainable entry into service of the trans-Saharan Algiers-Lagos road, which, according to them, is of strategic importance in strengthening the partnership between Algeria and African countries.

Currently, Algeria’s trade with Africa remains low at no more than $ 3 billion a year and is carried out almost with only five (5) countries.

This $ 3 billion in trade is split between $ 1.6 billion in Algerian exports and $ 1.4 billion in imports from African countries.

Algerian non-hydrocarbon exports to Africa amount to only $ 206 million, or 13% of the total amount of exports to the continent in which Algeria has only three trading posts (Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal and Senegal).

As part of the deployment of a new dynamic through various Algerian economic events abroad, several specific exhibitions of Algerian products were organized in 2018 in countries such as; Mauritania and Gabon.

An interministerial committee for programming Algerian economic events at the African and international levels was set up, last October, to monitor Algerian exhibitions and support economic operators to promote their products abroad.
