Algeria: AU calls for dialogue to carry out reforms

ADDIS ABEBA (African League)- The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AU) Moussa Faki Mahamat called, Saturday, for dialogue to implement the reforms announced by President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who postponed the presidential election and said he would not bid for a fifth term in office.

Mr. Faki Mahamat called, in a statement, for a national dialogue to reach a consensus and implement reforms that ensure peace, the stability and continuity of the state “.


“The President of the Commission also welcomed the decisions announced on 11 March 2019 by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika in his seven-point plan, especially his decision not to run for a fifth term  in the presidential election,” the statement said.

Mr. Faki Mahamat, in the same context, congratulated the “peaceful nature of the demonstrations, which reflects a great maturity and a high spirit of responsibility of the Algerian people and all concerned actors”.
