ALGIERS- Ramtane Lamamra on Wednesday in Algiers took his functions as Foreign minister to replace Abdelkader Messahel.
In a press release, Lamamra expressed, during a handover ceremony held at the Foreign Ministry’s headquarters, his deepest thanks to President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, for the trust he granted him to hold this position.
In this respect, he highlighted “the interest granted by the Head of the State to the Algerian diplomacy and his commitment to ensuring that it fully fulfils its mission, particularly when the nation needs to transmit the message containing the Algerian people’s aspirations to our foreign partners.”
“We are requested, like the People’s National Army (ANP) and many other security institutions, to dedicate ourselves to the nation at this critical moment, which requires from us all the prudence, vigilance and commitment to achieving the President’s orientations,” he added.
While highlighting “the important achievements made by the Algerian diplomacy over the years,” Lamamra welcomed “the professionalism and performance of foreign ministry officials, particularly women and young people occupying senior positions.”
For his part, Messahel expressed gratitude to President Bouteflika for the confidence he granted him to hold several posts, including that of foreign minister.
