Algeria – A new car ferry will be received in 2020, said the general director of the national group of maritime transport (GATMA), Ghomri Smail Larbi.
On the sidelines of the 9th edition of the international exhibition of the oil and gas industry in North Africa (NAPEC 2019) held in Oran, this official, quoted by the APS, said that this passenger ship is currently under construction in a Chinese shipyard.
With a carrying capacity of 2,000 passengers and 600 vehicles, the car ferry will be delivered in 2020 at a total cost of 198 million USD.
The maritime passenger fleet currently has two car ferries, to which another is added, chartered during the summer to meet the strong demand from the national community established in Europe.
The same official announced that this year, six cargo ships, including two container ships with a capacity of 2,000 containers of 20 inches each will be constructed. Bids have been opened and the announcement of the successful bidder will take place later, after the review of technical and financial offers.
