Algeria – Ramtane Lamamra, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, on Wednesday (March 13th) tackled issues related to the postponement of the presidential election by President Bouteflika.

To justify the postponement, Ramtane Lamamra referred to the shortening of the presidential term of Liamine Zeroual, declining to answer questions on the alleged infringement of the article of the constitution.

At the time, according to Lamamra, the decision of the former President of the Republic was criticized and described as unconstitutional.

In this context, the Deputy Prime Minister assured that by postponing the elections, President Bouteflika responded favorably to the wishes of the Algerian people. He also said that the state institutions will be functional throughout this period “until the new elections”.
