ALGIERS- President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika received, Monday, the Algerian diplomat and former Foreign Minister Lakhdar Brahimi.
“I had the honor of being received by President Bouteflika upon his return from Switzerland, where he carried out routine medical checks to inquire about his state of health,” Brahimi said in a statement to the press after his “courtesy visit.”
President Bouteflika “informed me of some important decisions he was going to take, given the current situation in the country,” he added.
The Algerian diplomat said he was “optimistic” about his talks with the Head of State, adding that “the voice of the people, especially young people, has been heard and the beginnings of a new constructive era are already visible, in order to bring solutions to our problems.”
“Young people in the streets have shown a high sense of responsibility, forcing the admiration of all, both inside and outside the country,” he said, calling for “continue to dialogue with as much responsibility and mutual respect to turn this crisis into a basis for construction “.
President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika sent, Monday, a message to the nation in which he announced the postponement of the Presidential Elections of 18 April 2019, and his decision to renounce his bid to seek a 5th term as president.
