The United States called yesterday, Tuesday, March 05, 2019, Algeria to respect the right to demonstrate, while thousands of Algerians have been protesting for several days against the fifth candidacy of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
“We are observing these protests in Algeria and we will continue to do so,” US Foreign Ministry spokesman Robert Palladino told reporters. “The United States supports the Algerian people and their right to demonstrate peacefully,” he added.
This is the first American reaction since the beginning of these demonstrations, almost daily for ten days in the capital despite their ban since 2001.
