ALGIERS-The products developed by Algerian companies are competitive on foreign markets because they meet international standards, Trade Minister, Said Djellab said Thursday in Algiers.

Chairing the closing ceremony of the International Agri-Food Fair “Djazagro 2019” at the Exhibition Palace (Algiers), Djellab stressed that Algeria now has a large number of innovative companies in various fields. They give a powerful impetus to the development of domestic products and its competitiveness on foreign markets, particularly under efforts to hike non-hydrocarbon exports.

The Algerian product now meets all the standards imposed by foreign markets and can position itself among other competing products, said the minister.

Several export contracts have been sealed with Mauritania, Germany, Gabon and the United Arab Emirates, announced Djellab who also highlighted continued efforts to make 2019 the year of exports.

In addition, the Minister reported that the measures to reduce the import bill had borne fruit thanks to the activity of production sectors which endeavor to cover domestic demand and export the surplus to African, European and even Asian countries.

Besides, Djellab announced that his department had taken measures to further boost exports to foreign markets.

“Algerian economic operators will receive more support to export domestic products in large quantities to foreign markets,” said the same official.

The minister also affirmed that his department was working to establish a real export culture through the implementation of stimulating mechanisms that should bear fruit within the next three years.
