Washington, February 25, 2019 (SPS) – UN envoy for Western Sahara Horst Kohler and the Polisario Front are expected to meet in Berlin in early March in preparation for the second roundtable to be held in Switzerland next month, sources close to the case said Monday.
The meeting, scheduled for the first week of March, is part of the bilateral consultations that the former German president intends to hold with the parties to the conflict (the Polisario Front and Morocco) and neighboring countries to prepare the second round table.
But the agenda has not been defined, added the same sources.
Last December, Kohler organized a first round table after six years of stalemate. The last time the Polisario Front and Morocco sit at the same negotiating table was in March 2012 in Manhasset (near New York).
Since then, the peace process has stalled.
The UN envoy was very optimistic after the Geneva meeting, assuring that a peaceful solution to Western Sahara was “possible”.
