ALGER – A cache containing weapons of war and ammunition was discovered, Tuesday in Tamanrasset, by a detachment of People’s National Army (ANP), said, Wednesday, a statement from the Ministry of National Defense.
“As part of the fight against terrorism, a detachment of the ANP discovered, on February 26, 2019, following a patrol conducted near the border strip in Tamanrasset / 6th Military District, a cache of weapons and ammunition containing a (01) heavy submachine gun of 14.5 mm caliber, a (01) submachine gun (FMPK), a (01) sniper rifle, two (02) repeating rifles, twenty (20) 82mm mortar rounds, as well as two (02) ammunition chains, 1,373 bales of different calibres and two (02) bags of chemicals used for the preparation of explosives, “the source said.
As part of the fight against organized crime, detachments of the ANP “arrested, during separate operations in In-Amena, Tamanrasset and In-Guezzam, four (04) gold miners and seized six (06) metal detectors, seven (07) generators, two (02) jackhammers, 4.8 kilograms of TNT, 23 detonating cords, 18 capsules, 185 bags of coal and 1.4 kilograms of treated Hashish ” added the same statement.
In the same context, combined detachments of the ANP “apprehended, in Tlemcen and Oran , 11 drug traffickers and seized 18 kilograms of treated Hashish and 05 tourist vehicles, while 2,090 psychotropic tablets and 6,626 units of different Beverages were seized in Bechar, Setif and Bejaia,” according to the same source.
Moreover, elements of the National Gendarmerie “intercepted, in Tebessa, an individual aboard a commercial vehicle loaded with 269 cartridges of different calibres, 800 grams of black powder, as well as products and tools used in filling cartridges “.
