Algeria-Tunisia: Need to pool efforts in face of threats targeting region


ALGIERS- Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning Noureddine Bedoui affirmed Monday that Algeria and Tunisia have great challenges in the face of the regional threats targeting the region.

Faced with these challenges, said Bedoui, the two countries are called to work together and  unite their capacities to deal with the phenomenon of terrorism, particularly “after the return, in recent months, of terrorists from other regions “.

These threats impose on both parties an “operational coordination with the various security services,” added the minister, noting that the meeting allowed to evaluate the conclusions of the first meeting between the Governors of the two countries’ border provinces hels last March .

For his part, Mr. Fourati said that his meeting with his Algerian counterpart is part of the dialogue between the two ministries and in response to the invitation of Mr. Bedoui.

He also said the meeting was an opportunity to discuss bilateral cooperation between the two ministries, particularly in the security field.

In this context, the Tunisian Minister announced that a first security meeting was scheduled for early next summer in Algiers or Tunis, recalling the joint security agreement reached in Tunis on March 17, 2017.

“The two sides discussed the availability of Tunisia to host the Council of Arab Ministers of the Interior and Justice, to be held on March 3 and 4,” he added.

In conclusion, the Tunisian Minister thanked Algeria, headed by President Bouteflika, for the realization of the natural gas project that allowed the connection of Sakiet Sidi Youssef.
