DUBAI – Five (5) export contracts for agricultural and agri-food products were signed on Wednesday in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) with agents of mass distribution activating in six (6) Arab countries.

The signing ceremony of these contracts took place in the presence of the Minister of Commerce, Saïd Djellab and representatives of foreign trade organizations of countries to receive, early April, the first shipments of Algerian products.

The ceremony also saw the presence of the 34 Algerian exhibitors attending Dubai International Agri-food Fair “Gulfood 2019”, which took place in Dubai from February 17 to 21, in addition to a number of Emirati officials and representatives of Algerian and foreign trade organizations. These contracts deal with the export of products such as potatoes, dates, oranges, garlic, eggs and juices to Libya, Jordan, Iraq, Palestine, Qatar and the UAE.

The contracts were signed between the Algerian company SNC GOLDEN DRINK AMRA and GIE and representatives of Dar Ennama companies in Libya, the Jordan Exporters Association of Jordan, while two other contracts were signed with exclusive representatives of the major distribution in Palestine and Iraq.

The forth contract was inked between Agro-Logistics Group (AGROLOG) and Lulu International Group , which has marketing subsidiaries in a large number of countries in the Arab world, Africa, as well as Asia, and the 5th contract covers export of four (4) products, namely potato, dates, oranges and garlic to the UAE and Qatar. These are overproduced products during the 2017/2018 agricultural season.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, “Golden Drink” General Manager Salim Amra said that this step was only a “first one”, adding that the company held, during the fair ” Gulf Food 2019 “, negotiations with a large number of traders from the Middle East and Asia, highlighting that negotiations will be crowned by other export contracts in the next period .

For his part, the director general of the Algerian group “AGROLOG”, Zefizef Djahid Abdelwaheb said that the contract concluded with the Emirati International Group “Lulu” was the fruit of a great effort undertaken by AGROLOG with the support of the companies and organizations of the foreign trade, like the National Agency for the Promotion of Foreign Trade (ALGEX).

For his part, Mr. Djellab welcomed the signing of these contracts, which, he said, reinforce the momentum experienced by the non-hydrocarbon export activity, which achieved a figure of 2.8 billion USD in 2018, saying he is optimistic for 2019 which will be, according to him, the year of exports.

He also reiterated the commitment of his ministry to support all economic operators in their efforts to access more foreign markets, under the instructions of the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika who has repeatedly stressed the need to diversify sources of income and to gradually overcome dependence on oil resources.

Evaluating the Algerian participation in this global economic event, the minister called it “positive”, adding that it had been crowned by the signing of export contracts and the entry of Algerian operators in broad negotiation with large companies.

At the end of the ceremony, several Algerian companies taking part in the show were honored in recognition of their great efforts to boost the export dynamic and diversify the national economy.
