Algeria’s Presidential Elections 2019: Revision of voter list to boost turnout rate accuracy, winner legitimacy

AIN DEFLA – The revision of the voter lists ahead of the coming presidential elections allowed the deletion of 151,000 registered voters, compared to 2014 elections, said in Aïn Defla, Chairman of the High Independent Body of Elections Monitoring (HIISE), adding that the voter list revision will “enhance the turnout rate accuracy and the winner legitimacy.”

“The number of the citizens registered in the voter lists ahead of the coming elections dropped by 151,000 compared to the 2014 elections. This reflects the work achieved for the revision of voter list revision which would enhance the turnout accuracy and the winner legitimacy,” added Derbal while visiting the city of Ain Defla to inquire about the 2019 elections preparations.

Speaking about the visits paid to certain provinces, Derbal said that they aim at explaining the prerogatives of the Instance representatives.

Derbal said that given the diverse composition of the Authority (410 members, half of them are judges and the rest are professors, surgeons, journalists, businessmen), training for improving the Authority work is necessary.

“The Authority work must be conducted before and after the elections. Both stages require appropriate training,” he added.

The “Authority assumes a mission of monitoring, not observation.”
