Algeria-Netherlands to sign cooperation agreement on waste management

ALGIERS- A cooperation agreement is to be signed between the Ministry of Environment and Renewable Energies and the Netherlands ’ embassy in Algeria in the field of waste management, said Sunday, in Algiers, the departments’ Minister Fatma Zohra Zerouati.

 

Speaking at the opening of a seminar on waste management, the minister said: “This meeting is part of the cooperation agreement that will be signed soon between the Ministry of Environment and renewable energy and Netherlands Embassy on waste management “.

Ms. Zerouati also reminded, at this meeting co-organized with the National Waste Agency and the Embassy of the Netherlands, the policy adopted by her ministerial department aimed, in particular, at establishing the National Strategy for Integrated Waste Management 2035

According to her, the environment sector has experienced a significant evolution in Algeria in recent years, due to the various investment programs initiated by the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, with the aim of improving the environment, protect the environment and natural resources.

She, also, mentioned the removal of 3,000 domestic landfill sites to handle around 13 million tonnes of household waste per year, including more than 7 million tonnes of recyclable waste, “which is a major reservoir for investment and wealth creation “.
