Cement: Exports to increase to USD $500mn over next five years


BECHAR – Minister of Industry and Mines Youcef Yousfi said that Algeria is aiming to increase its cement exports to half a billion USD in the next five years.

Speaking at a press briefing, on the sidelines of his visit to the province of Bechar, the minister said that the surplus in cement production should reach, over the next five years, between 10 to 15 million tonnes.

“Cement exports reached one million (1) ton in 2018,” Yousfi said, adding that they would increase to two (2) million tons, of which 1.2 million will be covered by the GICA Group.
With regard to the mining sector, the minister emphasized the need for mining and mineral resources to develop the various national industrial sectors, noting, in this respect, the exploitation of the huge Guettara manganese deposit in the steel industry whose production will increase from 6 million tons, currently, to 12 million tons, then 16 million tons in the coming years.

Responding to a question about the mining deposit of Gâra Djebilet de Tindouf, the minister said that “the technical studies for the project will be finalized soon, while studies will be launched in the year 2019, in partnership with foreigners in order to study the quality of the ore “.
