Organ removal from dead persons: Most statutory instruments drafted

Minister of Health, Population Hospital Reform Mokhtar Hasbellaoui said, Friday, that most of the statutory instruments governing the removal of organs from dead people are “drafted.”

“The new law sets out the fundamental ethical and organizational principles on the removal of organs from dead people,” the minister said in an opening address at the France-Maghreb Conference on transplantation, adding that “the draft statutory instruments relating to the law have mostly been developed.”

Since 2018, the year the new Health Act was promulgated, he noted, Algeria has a legislative framework for organ graft.

Hasbellaoui stressed the State’s commitment to “promoting and supporting” the relevant programme, dubbing it a “public health priority.”
