Algeria, India: “President Bouteflika enjoys great esteem in India,” Indian President

NEW DELHI (India)- Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel was received, Thursday in New Delhi, by President Ram Nath Kovind of India, to whom he delivered a written message from President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

The head of Algerian diplomacy, on an official visit to the Republic of India, reiterated, on this occasion, the commitment of Algeria, expressed in the message of the Head of State, to continue efforts to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas that can bring added value and new dynamism to bilateral relations, recalling, in this context, the Declaration of Strategic Partnership signed between the two countries in 2001 on the occasion of the visit of the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika to New Delhi.

For his part, India’s President Kovind said his country “considers President Abdelaziz Bouteflika as a true friend of India and a fervent advocate for peace and development, adding that he enjoys a great esteem in India “.

While recalling the historic relations of solidarity between Algeria and India, President Kovind expressed, on this occasion, his satisfaction with the level of the Algerian-Indian cooperation, underlining the need to further strengthen it to better serve the interests of both peoples and the ambitions of the two governments.


During their meeting, both officials broached regional and international issues of common interests, including the situation in the region, the fight against terrorism and violent extremism and illegal migration.
President Kovind has instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs to convey his message of esteem and consideration to the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, and his wishes for progress to the friendly Algerian people.

In addition, the Head of the Algerian diplomacy, on an official visit to India from 30th January 2019 to 1st February 2019, held discussion with Smt. Sushama Swaraj, External Affairs Minister of India on Bilateral, Regional and International issues of mutual interest.

During their talks, two documents: Cultural Exchange Program and Visa Waiver Agreement for Diplomatic and Official Passport holders were inked.
