Washington: Algeria, stable country, in turbulent area, due to national reconciliation

WASHINGTON – Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel said, Monday in Washington, that Algeria is a “stable country in an area marked by major upheavals induced by crises and security threats that have struck it.”

Messahel stressed that this stability enjoyed by Algeria, after a decade of terrorism, is “the result of a peace process that began with the policy of civil harmony followed by that of national reconciliation, led by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelaziz Bouteflika, thus putting an end to the national tragedy and directing the resources of the country towards the objectives of socio-economic development “.

“Algeria remains stable despite the many security challenges, crises and conflicts in the region,” said Messahel, adding that Algeria’s ability to maintain its security and stability is the result ” a global approach “which has contributed to the” strengthening “of state institutions and” the deepening of good governance and democracy as an antidote to the discourse of exclusion and exclusivity ” .

He added that Algeria had “progressively” implemented “global policies” of de-radicalization, based, in particular, on the “reappropriation of national identity, the promotion of the national religious referent of an Islam of openness and tolerance, as well as economic and justice and education reforms, to fight against the factors of exclusion and marginalization “.
