India’s Embassy to Algeria celebrates 70th Anniversary of India’s Republic Day

A reception was held, on Sunday, January, 27, 2019, at Algiers’ Palais De La Culture “Moufdi Zakaria”, by the Indian Embassy in Algeria, celebrating the 70th Anniversary of India’s Republic Day.

 

India’s Embassy to Algeria celebrated the 70th Republic Day at Palais De La Culture “Moufdi Zakaria” with the attendance of dignitaries, including Ministers, Ambassadors, Foreign Diplomats based in Algiers, high ranking officials, public personalities, business community and media persons.

With strong patriotic fervour, the anthems of the two countries, namely, Algeria and India were performed.

Commemorating the 150th Birth Anniversary of Gandhiji, the Embassy felicitated Ms. Baraka Merzaia the singer of favourite Gujarati Bhajan of Gandhiji “Vaishnav Jan”, during the reception. An exhibition on Khadi India was organized on this occasion too.

Earlier, the Embassy of India celebrated, also, India’s Republic Day, on Saturday, January, 26, 2019, at its headquarters (17, domaine Chekiken [Chemin de la Madeleine], Val d’Hydra, Algiers), where his Excellency, India’s Envoy, Satbir Singh, hoisted the national flag and addressed the attendees.

The flag hoisting took place in the presence of the officers, their families and members of the local community who participated in the singing of the National Anthem.

Following the ceremony, refreshments were served on this occasion.

It is worth mentioning that India became independent in 1947, however, it adopted the Constitution on Jan. 26, 1950 and proclaimed itself a sovereign, democratic and republic state.  Since then, Jan. 26 is celebrated as Republic Day in India.
