Bensalah re-elected Upper House’s speaker


ALGIERS- Abdelkader Bensalah has been re-elected Tuesday as speaker of the Council of the Nation (Upper House of Parliament) in a plenary session chaired by the oldest member, Salah Goudjil, in the presence of the minister for Relations with Parliament, Mahdjoub Bedda.

Mr. Bensalah, appointed by the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, as a third president, was acclaimed for a new term of three (3) years (2019-2021).

Previously, new members of the Council of the Nation were installed. This installation follows the elections of the partial renewal of the Council of the Nation, held on December 29th.

The Constitutional Council proclaimed, last January 14, the final results of these elections, won by the party of the National Liberation Front (FLN) which obtained 32 seats, followed by the RND (10 seats), the independents (3 seats), the FFS (2 seats) and the El-Moustakbal Front (1 seat).
