Algeria’s Presidential Elections 2019: Operation of electoral rolls’ exceptional review begins

The operation of exceptional review of the electoral rolls began, this Wednesday, and will run until February 6, in anticipation of the presidential election to be held on April 18, 2019.

This exceptional review of the electoral rolls comes under the provisions of Organic Law No. 16-10 on the electoral system, and the signing of the presidential decree convening the electorate for the election of the President of the Republic.
The electoral rolls are, thus, drawn up and revised in each municipality under the control of an electoral administrative commission, composed of a magistrate appointed by the president of the Court with territorial jurisdiction to preside over the commission, the president of the Municipal People’s Assembly ( APC), the Secretary-General of the commune, and two electors of the commune, appointed by the president of the commission.

The electoral rolls of the members of the national community established abroad are also drawn up and revised in each diplomatic or consular district under the control of an electoral administrative commission presided over by the head of the diplomatic mission or the head of the consular post designated by the ambassador.

It is worth mentioning that twenty-two (32) letters of intent to stand as a candidate in the presidential election, scheduled for 18 April 2019, have been submitted to the Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning.
