Algeria’s Presidential Elections 2019: 1 541 magistrates designated for monitoring vote


The Minister of Justice, Keeper of Seals, Tayeb Louh, announced this Wednesday, January 23, the appointment of 1,541 magistrates to chair the electoral commissions at the level of all municipalities nationwide.

Speaking, on the sidelines of the meeting of the High Independent Authority for Elections Monitoring (HISE), Mr Louh mentioned the appointment of 2,888 senior and substitute judges.

The Minister insisted on the “great responsibility” that awaits these magistrates, responsible for, among other things, overseeing the electoral process, in addition to the vice-president, two members including the wali.

With regard to the presidential election abroad, the minister highlighted that 6 senior magistrates and deputies are appointed to follow this process at the level of embassies and consulates.

In the same context, the Minister called on the prosecutors to instruct the competent judicial authorities to take legal action against anyone who could undermine the credibility of the presidential elections, scheduled for Thursday, April 18, 2019.
