MALTA- Foreign Affairs Minister Abdelkader Messahel emphasized, Friday in Valetta (Malta), Algeria’s efforts towards youth, stressing their role in the economic and social development of the country.

“Regarding Libya, Algeria has always considered that the multiplication of agendas and foreign interventions, minimize the chances of successful completion of the process of fair and lasting settlement of this crisis under United Nations aegis led by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Ghassane Salame “,” pointed out the Minister.

“We stress on the need for a single agenda for Libya and the imperative of stopping foreign interference that continues to be the real obstacle to the completion of the peace process in this neighbor country” said Mr Messahel.

He added that Algeria remains convinced that “the solution to the Libyan crisis can only come from the Libyan people themselves, without any foreign interference, through an inclusive dialogue in order to reach sustainable solutions that would be acceptable by all Libyan parties “.

The Algerian Foreign Minister praised “the recent measures taken by Libyans for security coordination which are a positive step towards the unification of Libyan state institutions and expressed his encouragement to the Libyan brothers to persevere on this path of dialogue “.

On the situation in the Sahel, Messahel reiterated Algeria’s “unwavering” commitment to complete the implementation of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement in Mali through multifaceted aid.

He also stressed the need for “more sustained” involvement of the international community and European partners, in particular, in the efforts to “consolidate peace and security in the Sahel region”.

On the situation in Syria, Mr. Messahel recalled that “Algeria has always been in favor of a political solution, based on dialogue and reconciliation, the only way to preserve the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and the unity of its people. ”

At the same time, he reiterated Algeria’s support “to the efforts of the UN envoy and the Astana process to reach a peaceful solution that will result from a constructive dialogue between the various Syrian actors and its support for brotherly Syrian people in their fight against terrorism and in their quest for stability and preservation of the sovereignty of their country “.

Addressing the issue of counter-terrorism, Foreign Minister said that “despite the recent setbacks and defeats of terrorism, it remains a global threat to which no country is immune, particularly, because of its great capacity for mobility, mutation, adaptation and innovation especially in its modus operandi “.

In this context, he welcomed the work done by the GCTF, each time enriching the range of instruments required for the effective conduct of the fight against violent extremism and terrorism.

In addition, he referred to the Palestinian cause that “requires a combination of efforts to overcome the current stalemate in the peace process, and thus, put an end to the daily suffering of the Palestinian people”, expressing “the Algeria’s unwavering position in favor of  the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with Al-Quds as its capital “.
