Algeria’s Presidential Elections to take place on April, 18- Presidency’s statement

The President of the Republic convened, today, Friday, January, 18th, 2019, the electorate for the holding of presidential elections next April, according to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic.


According to the constitution, the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, summoned the electorate, preparing for the presidential elections, due to take place as planned in April 2019.

 “Pursuant to Article 136 of the Organic Law on the Electoral System, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, President of the Republic issued on Friday, a Presidential Decree convening the electorate for the Presidential Elections scheduled for Thursday, April 18, 2019,” added the communiqué.

“The same Decree also provides for an exceptional revision of the Electoral Lists which will take place from 23 January to 06 February 2019,” pointed out the same source.

The Algerians are, therefore, called to cast their votes on Thursday, April 18 to elect the supreme leader of the country, putting an end to speculation about a possible postponement of the poll.
