Minister of Religious Affairs welcomes first exegesis of Holy Quran in Tamazight

ALGIERS- Minister of Religious Affairs and Wakfs Mohamed Aissa welcomed Saturday, in Algiers, the first publication of the exegesis of the Holy Quran into Tamazight, by Sheikh Si Hadj Mohand  Tayeb, on the occasion of the celebration of the new Amazigh year “Yennayer.”

 

Speaking at a scientific conference organized by the National Association of Local and Sustainable Development -Namaa-, the minister said that this exegesis in Tamazight is “the first of its kind in Algeria and the Maghreb”.

“This publication reflects the deep understanding of the Holy Qur’an and Islam, lays the groundwork for Amazigh language and methodology and opens the doors for research and enrichment in the future,” pointed out the Minister.

“Thanks to the historic decision of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, to devote Yennayer national and official holiday and the constitutionalization of Tamazight as a national language, Algeria has reconciled with itself and its history through this diversity; Islam,  Arabic and Amazigh.

Speaking on the occasion, Si Hadj Mohand Mohand Tayeb said that the Qur’an was difficult to translate into other languages ​​because of its highly distinctive quality, adding that his work was limited to exegesis of the Qur’an.

The representative of the national association revealed, in this sense, that, in the coming months, the organization of the Maghreb congress will enrich this publication, adding that 100,000 copies will be printed and that a free application on the internet will be created following the author’s request.


On this occasion, a symbolic distinction was awarded to the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, in recognition of the commendable efforts made for the establishment of peace and reconciliation and national unity and for the development of the country.

A distinction was also given to the author of the Qur’an’s exegesis and other personalities.

The event was attended by parliamentarians, representatives of the Moroccan and Saudi embassies in Algiers, some official institutions, personalities, scholars and imams.
