Counterterrorism: Two heavily armed terrorists surrender in Tamanrasset


Two heavily armed terrorists surrendered yesterday, 13 January 2019, to the military authorities in Tamanrasset, said a statement from the Ministry of National Defense.

As part of the fight against terrorism and thanks to the efforts of the National People’s Army Forces, two (02) terrorists surrendered, yesterday, January 13, 2019, to the military authorities in Tamanrasset in 6th Military Region.

These are the so-called “El Toudji Othmane” alias “Saad”, and “Melouki Ahmed” alias “Abdelmalek”, who joined the terrorist groups in 2017. The so-called terrorists were in possession of two (02 ) Kalashnikov-type machine guns, four (04) loaded loaders and (908) 14.5 mm bales.

As part of the fight against smuggling and organized crime, a detachment of the National People’s Army intercepted four (04) smugglers, during a search operation conducted in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, and seized two (02) trucks loaded with (30.5) tons of food, (36740) liters of kitchen oil, (2200) liters of fuel, while another detachment of the ANP apprehended fourteen (14) gold diggers and seized three (03) all-terrain vehicles, (04) metal detectors, a generator and a jackhammer, as well as (150) kilograms of stone and raw gold mixture and two satellite phones in In Guezzam.

In the same context, elements of the National Gendarmerie arrested, during separate operations in Oum Bouaghi and Jijel, (03) drug traffickers in possession of (774) psychotropic tablets, while (10) drones were seized in Bejaia.

In addition, and as part of the fight against illegal immigration, elements of the National Gendarmerie and Coast Guard intercepted seven (07) illegal immigrants of different nationalities, in Biskra and Tlemcen.
