The 2nd Amazigh Heritage and Handicraft Week kicked off, Sunday, at Bastion 23 on the occasion of the celebration of the New Amazigh Year 2969.
Organized by the Directorate of Culture of Algiers province in coordination with Bastion 23, this week’s program includes exhibitions of Amazigh craft products (clothes, jewelry, porteries, …) and cultural activities (conferences, poetic readings and competitions), besides a cooking contest of the traditional meals of Yennayer.
This cultural event will see the participation of more than 20 exhibitors from different regions of Algeria including Algiers, Tizi Ouzou, Touggourt and Bejaia, in order to present products corresponding to this event.
The inauguration ceremony, which took place in the presence of the Minister of Culture, Azzedine Mihoubi, the wali of the wilaya of Algiers, Abdelkader Zoukh and representatives of the Directorate of Culture of the Wilaya of Algiers, was marked by an animation of a folk troupe “Idhebalen” which interpreted pieces of the heritage of the Kabyle song.
This event was an opportunity for visitors to taste the different couscous dishes that represent the different regions of Algeria.
In a speech on this occasion, the Minister of Culture, Azzedine Mihoubi stressed the importance of such cultural events, organized to celebrate Yennayer that will provide an opportunity for the people to discover “his heritage, history and pride in the identity with all its dimensions; Arab, Amazigh and humanitarian “.
