Imports of CKD soar in Jan-Nov 2018- Customs

The import bill of CKD collections destined to car assembly industry stands at $2.482 billion from January and November in 2018, against $1.441 billion over the same period in 2017, the Customs’ National Centre of the Transmissions and Information System (CNTSID) told APS.

As a result, imports of passenger vehicles (classified in the Non-Food Consumer Goods Group) increased by more than $ 1.04 billion between these two comparison periods, an increase of 72.3%.
Imports of People and Goods Vehicles and CKD collections in this category of vehicles also increased to $ 526.64 million over the first 11 months of 2018 compared to $ 413.17 million dollars in the same period of 2017.

Imports of CKD Passenger and Goods Transport vehicles and CKD collections in this category of vehicles (classified in the Capital Goods Group) increased by $ 113.47 million (+ 27.5%) .

Thus, the overall import bill for CKD collections intended for the assembly industry of these two types of vehicles and the import of Transport of People and Goods (finished products) vehicles was nearly 3, $ 1 billion over the first 11 months against 1.85 billion dollars in the same period of 2017, up $ 1.16 billion (+ 63%).

Regarding imports of parts and accessories of motor vehicles (spare parts for used vehicles …), they fell to $ 335.4 million against $ 366.18 million, a decrease of nearly 30, $ 8 million (-8.41%).

In addition, imports of new rubber tires amounted to $ 133.28 million in the first eleven months of 2018 compared to $ 190.22 million in the same period last year, down nearly 57 million usd (-30%).

As a reminder, throughout the year 2017, the global import bill for Finished Passenger Vehicles and CKD collections intended for the assembly industry for this type of vehicle was $ 1.62 billion (versus $ 1.35 billion in 2016).

With regard to imports of Vehicles for the Transport of Persons and Goods and CKD collections of this category of vehicles, they amounted to $ 512.6 million in 2017 (compared with $ 767.7 million in 2016).

That gave an overall bill of $ 2.13 billion in 2017 (against $ 2.12 billion in 2016).

According to the latest available figures, the number of locally assembled passenger vehicles reached 110,000 units in 2017.
