“M’hamed Issiakhem: Father of Modern Algerian Painting”, is the title of a documentary on the life and work of this painter directed by Hafida Meraksi, said this latter to APS.
This work, supported by the house of culture “Zeddour Brahim Belkacem” of Oran, is the result of an in-depth research on M’hamed Issiakhem (1928/1985), his life, his artistic itinerary and his contribution to the development of national pictorial art, said Hafidha Meraksi, a member of this cultural institution.
This documentary is based on the testimonies of the relatives of the deceased artist and also deals with his artistic works which reflect his suffering, his physical and internal wounds and his strong attachment to his people and his society.
This audiovisual work aims to introduce the young artist M’hamed Issiakhem, this figure of Algerian painting, one of the most known and most appreciated on a worldwide scale.
The documentary was screened at the closing ceremony of the National Exhibition of Fine Arts, recently held in Oran in the presence of a large number of artists of different generations.
