The National Liberation Front (FLN) party won 29 seats followed by the National Democratic Rally (RND) party with 11 seats at the partial renewal of the members of the Council of the Nation, held on Saturday.

Pending the announcement of the results by the Constitutional Council, four (4) independent candidates were elected while the Socialist Forces Front (FFS) and El Moustakbal Front won two seats each.

In the light of these results, FLN counts henceforth 55 seats at the Parliament’s Upper House, which is “a first in the party’s history,” said the coordinator of FLN’s governing body Mouad Bouchareb, who underlined, in a first reaction, that his party “has made a resounding victory in 29 provinces thanks notably to our activists who believe in FLN’s values and also to the activists of other political parties that supported our candidates despite the attractive appeals of other rival parties.”

In this regard, he said that FLN is the first political force within the Parliament’s Upper House, expressing, on this occasion, his party’s willingness to collaborate with the other parties “to serve the country’s interest.”

For his part, RND’s Secretary General Ahmed Ouyahia said that he is not satisfied with his party’s results, but accept them, extending on the same occasion his “thanks” to RND’s activists who participated in the election “in complete transparency and with honor.”
