Trade deficit down by nearly 61% in Jan-Nov 2018


Algeria’s trade deficit stood at $4.13 billion during the first eleven months of 2018, against a deficit of $10.55 billion over the same period 2017, down by $6.42 billion (60.81%), said the Customs.


Between January and end of November 2018, the exports jumped to $37.23 billion against $31.592 billion over the same period in 2017, up by $ 5.64 billion (+17.86%), said the Customs’ National Centre of Transmissions and Information System (CNTSID).

The imports have slightly decreased to $41.371 billion against $42.147 billion in the same period of 2017, down by $776 million (-1.84%).

The exports have covered 90% the imports against 75% of the same period in the past year.

The hydrocarbons still represent the bulk of foreign sales abroad with 93.04% of the total amount of exports, amounting to $34.642 billion against $29.864 billion up by $4.78 billion (+16%).

The non-hydrocarbon exports remain marginal, accounting for only 6.96% of the total amount of the exports, or $2.59 billion.

However, they increased by 50.06% in comparison with the period of 2017.

The non-hydrocarbon exports were composed of semi-finished products with $2.05 billion against $1.24 billion (+ 65.11%), food products with $341 million against $331 million (+ 3.02%), gross revenues of $ 88 million against $ 66 million (+ 33.33%), industrial capital goods with $ 84 million, compared with US72 million (+ 16.7%), non-food consumption with $31 million against $18 million (+ 72.22%) and agricultural equipment with $0.30 million against $0.27 million (+ 11.11%).
