Death of former Ethiopian president: Upper House Speaker signs condolence book


Speaker of the Council of the Nation Abdelkader Bensalah signed, Thursday, at the headquarters of Ethiopia’s embassy in Algiers, on behalf of President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the condolence book following the death of former Ethiopian President Girma  Woldegiorgis, at the age of 95.

“It is with deep sorrow that we learned of the death of Mr. Girma Woldegiorgis, former President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. In this painful ordeal, we present to you, as well as to the family of the deceased, on behalf of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelaziz Bouteflika, and on my own behalf, our deepest condolences, “wrote Mr. Bensalah on the register, adding” I also seize this painful opportunity to recall the qualities of the late, ardent patriot and seasoned politician who distinguished himself by his unwavering commitment to advocacy of his people “.


“With the disappearance of Girma Woldegiorgis, Ethiopia has lost one of its brightest political leaders whose generations will remember for his sincerity, dedication, patriotism and struggle,” concluded Bensalah.
